In case we are unable to get back online for a while (who knows around here), I’ll try to bring you up to date. The last two days were a whirlwind. Yesterday, 12/14, we spent the entire day running from office to office trying to get the papers out to Kiev and meet with the judge. From the administrator, who did indeed finish her report, to the notary, who noted that there was a stray mark on Nastia’s birth certificate. Apparently this would cause us problems with everyone concerned if we didn’t rectify it. To the office of the birth registrar, who wasn’t authorized to change the certificate without written permission from Nastia’s school. To the school, a half hour away, for an official letter of permission. To the registrar, who needed documentary stamps. To the post office. To the registrar, who gave us the new certificate. To the notary, who discovered a problem with the administrator’s report. To the administrator, for a new report. To the notary. To the judge! Who was gone for the day in Zhitomer… To Zhitomer, where we packed up the papers very carefully in three separate files, all together in our “diplomatic pouch,” a yellow plastic envelope with a cute little snap on it. To the bus station, where we handed over this priceless collection to a minibus driver, along with $2.00 and a note with our contact’s cell phone number in Kiev. And finally to celebrate.
Oops we’re out of time here and they need the terminal back. I’ll upload now and finish tomorrow if we’re lucky.
