We neglected to post this the other day. We asked our driver Ivan (Vanya) to show us the Jewish cemetary in Radomischle. It has gravestones going well back into the 1800’s and maybe earlier. Many of the stones were toppled and defaced, first by Stalinists and then by the Nazis (and probably again by the Stalinists). But the cemetary is still in use. There are a few graves from the 1990’s and a number of graves were tended and had flowers.
The area of the cemetary is quite large. Maybe 5 acres or more? So much is overgrown that you can’t really tell. Also, there were a couple of areas that are clearly used for the consumption of alcohol and the use of drugs (we found hypodermic needles lying around).
