The two little girls in the picture at the top are Nina and Sophia. They are two of three sisters who share a room in an experimental program in Sasha’s school where they try to keep sibling groups together in a more homelike atmosphere. They have a few more personal possessions than the other kids, there are plastic plants in their dorm area, a kitchen and a nice living room. They have pets too! Parakeets and hamsters. Nina is 11 and Sophia is 9.
Our translator Svieta has fallen in love with a little girl named Inishka. Here she’s holding her tight.
Then there’s another picture Nastia took of us.
Here is a picture of Nastia wearing the hat Beverly made for Michael. (Lauren explained to her in Ukrainian that Nanny is so happy Nastia knows how to knit because Nanny can’t wait to knit with her!) She doesn’t know yet that we have one for her and one for Sasha all matching!
Also showing a picture of the cover of a coloring book Nastia’s class uses. It’s called “My cochlear implant coloring book.” We guess that some British organization donated it and it’s supposed to help kids understand their coming surgery for a cochlear implant. I read it aloud to the class and Svieta translated it. The kids had a great time.
